David Haye and Tony Bellew fought each other for the first time on March 4, 2017, at the O2 Arena in Greenwich, London, United Kingdom. The fight was promoted by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport and David Haye of Hayemaker Promotions. The referee for the fight was Phil Edwards, and the judges were Michael Alexander, Bob Williams, and Victor Loughlin. David Haye was ahead on points after five rounds when he badly ruptured his Achilles tendon after stepping awkwardly. In round 11, Haye was caught by punches to the top of his head while bobbing and weaving. He fell through the ropes as his Achilles again gave way due to his body weight being on the ankle. After climbing back into the ring before the count of ten, his trainer Shane Mcguigan threw in the towel signaling the end and a massive upset win for Tony Bellew.
